Use this free LSAC GPA calculator to find the GPA law schools will see. Add your courses, grades and credits, and it converts them the way LSAC does. It also works as a CAS GPA calculator, since your CAS GPA is the same thing as your LSAC GPA.
LSAC GPA Calculator
Add each college course with its grade and credits. We convert it the way LSAC does, on a 4.33 scale.
Enter repeated courses each time you took them, because LSAC counts every attempt. Leave out W grades and pass grades. This is an estimate. Your official LSAC GPA appears on your CAS report.
Your LSAC GPA is the GPA law schools actually see. It can be different from the GPA on your college transcript, sometimes by a lot. That is because LSAC converts every grade to its own scale and counts things your school might ignore.
This guide shows the LSAC grade conversion table, how A+ grades, W grades, and repeated courses are handled, and how to estimate your own LSAC GPA. The rules below come from LSAC’s transcript summarization policy.
LSAC GPA Conversion Table
LSAC turns every letter grade into a number on a 4.33 scale:
| Letter Grade | LSAC Value | Typical Percent Range |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.33 | 98 to 100 |
| A | 4.00 | 93 to 97 |
| A- | 3.67 | 90 to 92 |
| B+ | 3.33 | 87 to 89 |
| B | 3.00 | 83 to 86 |
| B- | 2.67 | 80 to 82 |
| C+ | 2.33 | 77 to 79 |
| C | 2.00 | 73 to 76 |
| C- | 1.67 | 70 to 72 |
| D+ | 1.33 | 67 to 69 |
| D | 1.00 | 63 to 66 |
| D- | 0.67 | 60 to 62 |
| F | 0.00 | Below 60 |
Some schools use grades like AB or BC. LSAC counts AB as 3.50, BC as 2.50, and CD as 1.50.
A+ Grades Can Push You Above 4.0
LSAC counts an A+ as 4.33. Many colleges cap an A+ at 4.0. So if your school gives A+ grades, your LSAC GPA can be higher than your transcript GPA, even above 4.0. This is one of the few LSAC rules that helps students.
Repeated Courses Count Every Time
This rule surprises many students. If you retook a class and your school replaced the old grade, LSAC still counts both grades, as long as the transcript shows the units and grade for each attempt.
Example: you got a D in Chemistry, retook it, and earned an A. Your school may only count the A. LSAC counts the D and the A, so your LSAC GPA will be lower than your school GPA.
The only exception: if your transcript does not show both the grade and the units for the first attempt, LSAC leaves that grade out of the GPA.
W, WF, and Incomplete Grades
| Grade | How LSAC Treats It |
|---|---|
| W (Withdraw), WP (Withdraw Pass) | Left out of the GPA if your school treats it as non-punitive |
| WF (Withdraw Fail) | Left out only if your school treats it as non-punitive. If your school counts it as a failing grade, LSAC counts it as 0.00 |
| Incomplete | Left out if your school treats it as non-punitive |
| Incomplete/Fail | Counted as 0.00, even if your school does not count it |
A plain W usually does not hurt your LSAC GPA. Schools can still see it on your transcript, though, so a long list of withdrawals can raise questions.
Pass/Fail Courses
A “Pass” from a pass/fail class is not turned into a number. LSAC lists those credits separately as unconverted credits. A failing grade may still count if your school counts it in its own GPA.
What Counts in Your LSAC GPA
- Counts: all undergraduate courses taken before your first bachelor’s degree was awarded, at every college you attended. Community college and summer classes count too.
- Does not count: graduate school, law school, or any course taken after your first bachelor’s degree date. You still have to send those transcripts.
- AP credit: not converted. It is listed separately.
- College classes in high school (dual enrollment): counted for the 2026-2027 cycle. Starting with the 2027-2028 cycle, LSAC will leave them out.
Quarter hours are converted to semester hours by multiplying by 0.67.
How to Estimate Your LSAC GPA
- List every undergraduate course from every college, including retakes.
- Convert each letter grade with the table above.
- Multiply each grade value by the course’s credit hours.
- Add up all those grade points.
- Divide by the total credit hours that count.
The LSAC GPA calculator at the top of this page does this math for you. Your official number will appear in your LSAC Academic Summary Report once LSAC gets your transcripts.
Why Your LSAC GPA Matters
Law schools report the LSAC GPA to the ABA and use it in admissions and scholarships. Along with your LSAT score, it is one of the two biggest numbers in your file. If your GPA is below a school’s median, a higher LSAT score can help balance it. See our guide to reverse splitters and splitters, or check your odds with the LSAT and GPA chart.
LSAC GPA FAQ
Does LSAC round your GPA?
LSAC reports GPAs to two decimal places on your report. Small differences from your own math are normal, and LSAC notes that its GPA may vary a little from what a college calculates.
Can I get a W grade removed from my LSAC GPA?
A non-punitive W is already left out of the GPA. LSAC goes by what your transcript shows and how your school treats each grade.
Does a 4.33 A+ help at every school?
Only if your college gives A+ grades. LSAC converts what is on your transcript. If your school’s top grade is an A, your top value is 4.00.
Once you know your LSAC GPA, pair it with your LSAT score. Our free LSAT score calculator shows your percentile and which law schools fit.
LSAC GPA vs CAS GPA
They are the same. LSAC runs the Credential Assembly Service (CAS). When you send your transcripts to CAS, LSAC builds one GPA from all of them. That number is printed on your CAS report, and it is the GPA law schools report to the ABA.
