A high rate does not mean a school is a bad choice, and a low one does not make it the right fit. Before you choose, look at bar passage, jobs and cost in each school’s ABA disclosures.
How Law School Acceptance Rates Work
An acceptance rate is the number of offers a school made divided by the applications it received. The ABA reports 517,127 applications and 136,196 offers across all schools for fall 2025.
Those are applications, not people. Most students apply to several schools, so the share of applicants who get into at least one school is different from the rates here.
What Matters More Than the Acceptance Rate
Your LSAT and GPA compared with a school’s numbers tell you more about your odds than its overall rate does. A 20% rate can be likely for you if your numbers are well above its medians. Start with these tools:
- Law school admissions calculator sorts every school into likely, target and reach.
- What LSAT score do I need shows the target for one school.
- LSAT and GPA chart shows how many schools fit your numbers.
